Ai, Chihuahua!

In January, 1971, the family (minus Poss, who had gotten far too many demerits to deserve the opportunity to join us) took to the road and visited the capital of the Mexican state of Chihuahua. I told a story of this trip earlier.

Here are the pictures from that trip.

I am completely bummed because there are no pictures of Pancho Villa's widow nor his death car. I was looking forward to seeing our photos of them.

The things we get to see are:
Here is a better picture of the execution of Hidalgo.

Anybody know anything about the unidentified scenery around town?

Thanks! Maybe there are more pictures on another roll. I remember a picture of a street scene (maybe with cafe tables?) with "Pepsi" signs, not the rural scenes we see here.

I, too, would like to see a pictures of Sra. Villa.

I took a picture of Sra. Villa with Bobbie, but it was lost in the Cerro Grande Fire. I'm sorry.

The mining operation was in Santa Eulalia, which I remember because of the multi-holed public outhouse that water periodically sluiced through to carry away the wastes. The seats were metal, and the water was cold!

The shorter woman was Bertha, who was related to Lupe (Sullens?), Walt's wife; Walt was a credit union colleague of Jack's.

As I recall, we were trying to find the remains of some wealthy person's hacienda out in the boonies. Bertha would get out periodically to query one of the locals in rapid Spanish and expansive gestures, hop back in the carryall, and say, "Derecho!" I think the rural scenes are from that jaunt.

Everyone except Izzy and Chuckbert got sick with Montezuma's Revenge; I did not eat avocados for more than a year, and pickled jalapenos are still a gross blight upon the gloss of peppers.

Izzy was losing a tooth at the time, and she ground her teeth when she slept. I remember Chuckbert's waking up in the night to fish around in Izzy's mouth to make sure she hadn't ground the loose tooth out.

Having a vacation in Chihuahua seemed to me then and seems to me now similar to going to Truth or Consequences for a week to explore the soft underbelly of T or C nightlife.

Word verif: baned, my thoughts about most of that trip

Gosh, too bad I ended up taking care of the dogs for this one!

Did anybody ever take the silver ore rocks? Or are they still in the laundry room, Poss?

Well, at least the jaunt didnb't last as long as The Trip From Hell.
